Abstract The EU Commission published on the 26th of October 2022 its proposal for amending three central water management Directives, Water Framework Directive, Groundwater and Directive Environmental Quality Standards. introduces a series amendments changes to remedy shortcomings that were identified in previous fitness check European legislation align legal framework with scientific technical progress last decades. It also identifies five groups as groundwater management. In several instances, generic sum-EQS values suggested selected groups, an approach lacks underpinning might not always be sufficiently protective. Combined sewer overflow quality and EU Water Framework Directive
The Community strategy against pollution of surface water control policy was set out by the European Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC which lays down new procedures for the identification of substances and development of control measures. After the decision n° 2455/2001/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 November 2001 setting out the first list of 33 substances or groups...
متن کاملNanomaterials and the European Water Framework Directive
Besides the European Union (EU) Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of CHemicals (REACH), the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) is probably the single most important piece of environmental legislation in Europe when it comes to dealing with nanomaterials in the future given their widespread and dispersive use. Despite of the importance of the WFD, the WFD has ...
متن کاملUsing high-frequency water quality data to assess sampling strategies for the EU Water Framework Directive
The EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires that the ecological and chemical status of water bodies in Europe should be assessed, and action taken where possible to ensure that at least “good” quality is attained in each case by 2015. This paper is concerned with the accuracy and precision with which chemical status in rivers can be measured given certain sampling strategies, and how this c...

The Water Framework Directive (WFD) is the core legislative instrument in the European Union for the protection of water resources. Adopted in 2000, its objectives were to achieve “good status” for water bodies by 2015 and prevent any further deterioration. However, the European Commission and some stakeholders are rather dissatisfied with the implementation of the Directive so far, in particul...

As a result, hydromorphology, which includes the hydrological regime, is embedded within the WFD as a supporting element to achieve good ecological status (GES). Environmental flow releases from impoundments such as reservoir dams will need to be implemented to mitigate impacts from th...
